Photographer: Asaf Kliger

On December 10, this year's ice art was revealed atIcehotel on the riverbank in Jukkasjärvi. For the 32nd year in a row, Icehotel opened the doors to its yearly winter hotel, filled with fantastic art suites and sculptures made entirely of ice and snow.

During two intense weeks, 27 artists from around the world, together with the hotel's construction team and Creative Director Luca Roncoroni, have built and created this year's winter hotel and all of its art. In addition to the 12 art suites in Icehotel 32, a special ice ceremony hall has also been built by the artists Marjolein Vonk & Maurizio Perron.

- We are incredibly happy to finally be able to share this year's ice art. I want to give a big thank you to all this year's artists, as well as the construction team for the fantastic job they did here in Jukkasjärvi during the autumn, both in Icehotel 32 and in Icehotel 365. This year's guests have something very special to look forward to!, says Malin Franck, CEO at Icehotel

Among the seasonal suites, guests can travel back in time and visit London's mysterious alleys in the "Dickensian Street" art suite, created by Jonathan Green & Marnie Green. Or why not sleep in a suite filled with chickens in "To bed with the chickens", created by Edith Van de Wetering & Wilfred Stijger? In Edith and Wilfred's homeland of the Netherlands, the phrase "go to bed with the chickens" means going to bed early - not a stupid thing to do in this fantastic art suite.

- Once again, the artists managed to create mesmerizing rooms, which I’m sure will bring our guests into dream worlds and will create unique memories. Every year it´s an inspiration to witness the synergy between 70 amazing individuals gathering in Jukkasjärvi; artists, builders, light designers, and production staff all work with the common goal of creating life-enriching moments for our guests. The best reward is to see people's smiles and wonder once we open the doors for once again another Icehotel. Welcome!, says Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director at Icehotel

Icehotel 32 and all its art and rooms will only be available to be experienced during the coming winter season, before everything, in the spring melts down and reunites with the Torne river. What remains is the permanent part of Icehotel, Icehotel 365, with Icebar, a movie theater, and an exhibition made of ice and snow, as well as another 9 art suites and 9 deluxe suites, three of which are new for the season.

The new art suites in Icehotel 365 consist of "Wanderlust" created by the German artists Kristina Möckel & Sebastion Scheller, "Strobilus Land" created by Swedish Linda Vagnelind, and "A midsummer night's dream" created by the Swedish design duo Bernadotte & Kylberg.

This is how Icehotel 32 was created

Sweden, Poland, Great Britain, Spain, Chile, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Italy are all countries represented among this year's artists. Some of the artists have visited and worked at Icehotel before, while others have experienced Jukkasjärvi for the first time. What all artists have in common is that they have been carefully selected by Icehotel to create unique works of art and suites that our guests can enjoy.

The work began already in March when over a thousand large blocks of ice were harvested from the Torne River and then transformed into art as powerful as the nature that surrounds the Icehotel.

ICEHOTEL 32

ROOM SERVICE

Tjåsa Gusfors - Artist, artist and sculptor, Sweden

Ulrika Tallving - Stylist and sculptor, Sweden

SACRED GIANT

AnnaSofia Mååg - Artist, Sweden

Emilia Elisson - Artist, Sweden

My Flink - Artist and sculptor, Sweden

Oscar Insulander - Sculptor, Sweden

NO PRESSURE

Carl Wellander - Sculptor, Sweden

Klara Wellander – Student of neuroscience, Sweden

INOM

Henkia (Francisco Javier Cortes Zamudio) – Artist, Chile

TO BED WITH THE CHICKENS

Edith Van de Wetering - Artist, Netherlands

Wilfred Stijger - Artist, Netherlands

MOLECULES

Anja Kilian - Interior and Textile Designer, Germany

Wolfgang Lüchow - Product Designer, Germany

GREAT GATSBY

Tomasz Czajkowski - Artist and Designer, Poland

Tomasz Jastrzebski - Architect, Poland

DICKENSIAN STREET

Jonathan Green - Sculptor and Designer, UK

Marnie Green - Sculptor, UK

DIFFERENT NATURES

Robert Harding - Sculptor, Spain

Timsam Harding - Artist, Spain

BLUE TUNDRA

Elisabeth Kristensen - Sculptor, Norway

UV

Nicolas Triboulot - Artist and designer, France

Fernand Manzi - Designer, France

GINNUNGAGAP

ONOMIAU - Architecture & Design Practice, France

ON AIR – CEREMONY HALL

Marjolein Vonk - Stylist and Art Director, The Netherlands Maurizio Perron - Sculptor, Italy

ICEHOTEL 365 – ART & DELUXES SUITES

WANDERLUST

Kristina Möckel - Designer and illustrator, Germany

Sebastion Scheller - Artist and designer, Germany

STROBILUS LAND

Linda Vagnelind - Artist, Sweden

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT`S DREAM

Bernadotte & Kylberg – Designers, Sweden

ABOUT ICEHOTEL

Icehotel opened in 1989 and is beside a hotel also an art exhibition with ever-changing art made out of ice and snow. Icehotel is created in a new guise every winter, completely made out of natural ice from Torne River, one of Sweden´s national rivers and last untouched waters. When the winter season´s hotel has melted back into the river during the spring, a part of the hotel remains; a place where visitors can experience the ice and show all year round.

BRIEF FACTS ABOUT ICEHOTEL

44 Warm hotel rooms

28 Warm chalets

18 Year-round open art & deluxe suites of ice (-5 degrees Celsius)

36 Winter Open Art Suites & Ice Rooms (-5 degrees Celsius)

1 Accessibility adapted Art Suite made of ice (-5 degrees Celsius)

3 Meeting rooms

1 Ceremony hall made of ice and snow in the winter hotel (mid-Dec - mid-April)

1 movie theater made of ice and snow for 29 guests, open all year round

1 Exhibition room made of ice and snow

1 Icebar

3 Restaurants

3 Wilderness Camps

FACTS ABOUT ICEHOTEL 32

27 artists have created the new art suites in Icehotel 32, as well as in Icehotel 365

600 tons of ice were used to build the Icehotel 32

10 Olympic swimming pools (25000 cubic meters) of snis, a mix of snow and ice, were used to create Icehotel 32

200 handmade ice crystals were used to create the crystal chandeliers in Icehotel 32

Icehotel 32 has a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius inside the building

It takes 6 weeks to build Icehotel 32, from start to finish

Icehotel was named the world's leading ice hotel and winner of the World Travel Awards 2020

For high-resolution photos and press material visit:

https://www.icehotel.com/media

For interviews and more information, contact: Andrea Carlsen, PR & press

press@icehotel.com

Link to live streaming of the opening of Icehotel 32:

https://fb.watch/9SQxxtcEq_/
",
