Icehotel was founded in 1989, and in addition to being a unique hotel, it is also a living exhibition with art created from ice and snow. Icehotel is recreated yearly, and the suites grow into unique art works that only exist in once. Now the application process for Icehotel 34 is open, and you have the opportunity to create your unique work of art from ice and snow. The deadline for submitting the design contribution to Icehotel 34 is April 16, 2023.

The planning for Icehotel 34 has started, and just like in previous years Icehotel is created with ice borrowed from the Torne River, one of Sweden's national rivers and one of the last untouched waterway. This is a unique art project where each block of ice has a unique story that changes shape and form over the season. Creatives from all over the world now have the opportunity to apply and design their dream suite.

The production of Icehotel is organized as an international project where the selected artists gather in Jukkasjärvi to build suites that are original and magnificent.

– At Icehotel, artists get a fantastic opportunity to create creative and innovative ideas. Working with organicmaterials that changesaccording to the season is challenging, and as powerful as nature. We want the contribution to be a unique expression, innovative, creative, and beautiful. The only requirement is that it must be original and include a bed - and that the idea can be realized with ice and snow. We arelooking forward to this year's applications for Icehotel 34, says Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director Icehotel.

Icehotel is a unique art concept that over the years has been created by award-winning designers and artists such as Bernadotte & Kylberg, winners of several international design awards such as the prestigious Red Dot Award, the design duo Kauppi & Kauppi who has won countless awards worldwide for their furniture and their lighting, and French Nicolas Triboulot & Fernand Manzi who work daily with designing crystal vases in Paris. Icehotel has also had art suites designed by tomorrow's artists and ceramists, students from Leksands Folkhögskola.

Application and deadline

While previous experience sculpting ice, snow or other materials is an advantage, Icehotel also welcomes applications from all creative disciplines. The selection of the winning entries is based on their concept, creativity, innovation, feasibility, and of course, on the experience provided to visitors and guests. The artists are responsible for completing their suites at the Icehotel, but there is a support team that can assist them and a lighting team that develops a lighting plan in collaboration with the artist.

The application is open until Sunday, 16 April 2023, and the winning concepts will be announced on Tuesday, 2 May 2023. For further information, contact: art@icehotel.com

About Icehotel AB

The ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi is both a world-unique hotel and an art exhibition crafted from snow and ice.

Inspired by the Torne River, the first small gallery showcased art made from the river’s frozen waters. Since then, ICEHOTEL has been reborn in a new form each winter - a magical and fleeting creation that melts back into the river as the spring sun warms.

Now, over 30 years since we began, it’s possible to enjoy this magical experience all year round. ICEHOTEL 365, cooled by solar power, maintains a steady minus-five-degree temperature, allowing our guests to marvel at fantastic ice creations even under the midnight sun in summer.
