Are you a person who loves to shape creative, beautiful, or innovative creations? Have you dreamed of doing this in ice and snow? Now you have the chance! The application to be a part of creating next year's Icehotel 33 has now opened.

The planning for the art project Icehotel 33 has now begun. The winter hotel, which is constructed with ice borrowed from the Torne River, takes on a new shape every year and this autumn it's time again. After the application has been on hold for the past two years due to the pandemic and restrictions, creative souls from all over the world can once again apply to be a part of designing and forming Icehotel.

By tradition, the actual making of the winter hotel is an art forum, whereby the 40-45 selected suite designers, from all over the world, gather in Jukkasjärvi to use ice and snow as the canvas for their art. Each art suite is an installation, an original piece of art that melts and returns to mother nature in the spring. The suite designs are given creative freedom and the only requirement is that it must be your original design and include a bed - of course, everything must be created from ice and snow.

- This is a fantastic day for Icehotel. We open the call for proposals for Icehotel 33, and this time we can invite artists and creatives from all over the world!

After two seasons with several restrictions, it feels great to finally be able to return to our original and unique format. I can´t wait to see all the proposals for the 33rd winter hotel, says Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director at Icehotel.

Icehotel is a unique art concept that over the years has been created by award-winning designers and artists such as Bernadotte & Kylberg, winners of several international design awards such as the prestigious Red Dot Award, the design duo Kauppi & Kauppi who has won countless awards worldwide for their furniture and their lighting, and French Nicolas Triboulot & Fernand Manzi who work daily with designing crystal vases in Paris. Icehotel has also had art suites designed by tomorrow's artists and ceramicists, students from Leksands Folkhögskola.

APPLICATION AND DEADLINE

Although most applicants have a background in art and design, many years of experience with snow and ice, this is not a requirement. Every year we invite a "rookie team" who are curious about working with ice and snow for the first time. This group receives extra follow-ups from our Support Team, many good tips from the other artists, and the results are always impressive. Just look at the French design group Onomiau, which this year created the enchanting suite "Ginnungagap".

The artist teams are responsible for completing their suites at Icehotel, but there is a support team that can give you advice on design and construction, as well as a lighting team that assists with the lighting in the suite.

Icehotel evaluates the applications based on concept, innovation, visualization, and description.

The application is open until 15 May and the winners will be announced on 8 June.

About Icehotel AB

The ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi is both a world-unique hotel and an art exhibition crafted from snow and ice.

Inspired by the Torne River, the first small gallery showcased art made from the river’s frozen waters. Since then, ICEHOTEL has been reborn in a new form each winter - a magical and fleeting creation that melts back into the river as the spring sun warms.

Now, over 30 years since we began, it’s possible to enjoy this magical experience all year round. ICEHOTEL 365, cooled by solar power, maintains a steady minus-five-degree temperature, allowing our guests to marvel at fantastic ice creations even under the midnight sun in summer.
