In the heart of Copenhagen, on Strøget, ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL Copenhagen opens its doors today. Guests are greeted by sparkling ice art and Arctic cocktails served in glasses made from crystal-clear ice from the Torne River. The bar is kept at -5 degrees Celsius year-round, and visitors can now experience the magic that has made ICEHOTEL an international icon – without leaving the city’s pulse.

Step Into “Origin” – Where the Torne River Meets Copenhagen ICEBAR is designed by the artist duo Christian Strömqvist and Karl-Johan Ekeroth and is called “Origin.” The theme celebrates water as the source of life and the Torne River – the place where ICEHOTEL’s story began, and the material that creates both ICEHOTEL and ICEBAR. The bar is built with 50 tons of crystal-clear natural ice, carefully shaped by artists and builders together with lighting designers. When the ice melts, it returns to water – a reminder of nature’s continuous cycle and a tribute to ice, which provides new possibilities for creation in this renewable material every year.
The experience:
- Guests start in a warm lounge, are given capes and gloves, and then enter this frozen universe (-5 degrees Celsius year-round).
- Cocktails and sparkling drinks are served in glasses made from Torne River ice. In collaboration with Norrbottens Destilleri, the drinks are inspired by the flavors of northern Sweden – spruce, pine, and wild berries meet Arctic creativity.
- Around, the light reflects on ice art and design installations, creating a calm, almost magical atmosphere.
- Whether enjoying a drink after work, celebrating something special, or hosting a kickoff with colleagues, ICEBAR offers an experience unlike any other in the heart of Strøget.
Currently, the 36th version of ICEHOTEL is being created in Jukkasjärvi, northern Sweden. ICEHOTEL’s craftsmanship, design, and artistic creativity are now stepping out into the world – and ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL Copenhagen is the first bar to open, run by ICEHOTEL. Welcome in to the cold!

- Ice weight: 50 tons of crystal-clear natural ice
- Temperature: -5 degrees Celsius year-round
- Sustainability: ICEBAR and ICEHOTEL are made from ice from the Torne River. The total amount of ice used to create ICEHOTEL and ICEBARs equals just ten seconds of the river’s natural flow. The ice is a renewable material, and when the design is changed, the art returns to water – the circle is complete. To cool ICEBAR COPENHAGEN, approximately 118 kWh per day is used, which corresponds to 463 kWh of energy per square meter per year — in line with an average restaurant or bar, which typically uses 300–600 kWh/m² annually.
