ICEHOTEL 33 HAS OPENED – THIS YEAR WITH MAGNIFICENT AND UNIQUE ART BY ARTISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

On December 16th,the doors to Icehotel 33, the winter-season part of Icehotel, has opened. The hotel, where every room is a work of art in this unique art gallery, will be the 33rdedition. Its art suites, sculptures and ceremonial hall has been created by artists from all over the world, made entirely of ice and snow.
This year´s winter and art hotel are now ready for visitors in Jukkasjärvi. 24 artists from around the world, together with the hotel´s construction team and Creative Director Luca Roncoroni, have built and created the hotel and all its art during six intense weeks. In addition to the 12 art suites in Icehotel, the much talked about ceremony hall for weddings and other celebrations, forms the heart of the hotel. This year the master minds behind the ceremony hall is Wouter Biegelaar, Netherlands, and Viktor Tsarski from Bulgaria.
Icehotel 33
The construction, which is made in a new rendition every year, begins already in the spring when blocks of ice are harvested from the mighty Torne River. Kept cold in the ice warehouse in Jukkasjärvi, later to be used to create beautiful art and architecture. This year artists from Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Chile, Netherlands, Singapore, France, Japan, Canada, Bulgaria, Mongolia and Slovakia have carefully been selected by Icehotel to create a unique world of art that our guests can enjoy.
– It is a pleasure to experience when these 24 artists from all around the world come to us in Jukkasjärvi to create the year´s most powerful art experience in three-dimensional form and to witness the art grows from the walls, ceilings and the ground. An experience that we now can share with the rest of the world, which we are very proud of, says Marie Herrey, CEO Icehotel.
Icehotel 365
Icehotel 33 and all its art and rooms will be available to experience during the coming winter season, before everything melts during spring where it reunites with the Torne River. What remains is the permanent part of the hotel, Icehotel 365, with an Icebar, a movie theater and an exhibition made of ice and snow, as well as another nine art suites and eight deluxe suites and one design suite, one of which is new for the season.

- 24 artists (from 13 countries) have created the new art suites in Icehotel 33
- 500 tons of ice were used to build Icehotel 33
- 10 Olympic swimming pools (33 883 000 cubic feet) of snis, a mix of snow and ice, were used to create Icehotel 33
- 200 handmade ice crystals were used to create the iconic crystal chandelier
- Icehotel 33 has a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius/23 Fahrenheit inside the building
- It took 6 weeks to build Icehotel 33, from start to finish
- Icehotel has won many rewards, among them the world´s leading ice hotel and Swedens leading boutique hotel in World Travel Awards

- There were 102 applicant artists who submitted contributions to be a part of building this year´s edition of Icehotel
About Icehotel
Icehotel opened in 1989 and is beside a hotel also an art exhibition with ever-changing art made of ice and snow. Icehotel is created in a new version every winter, completely made of natural ice from Torne River, one of Sweden´s national rivers and last untouched waters. When the winter season´s hotel has melted back into the river during the spring, a part of the hotel remains; a place where visitors can experience the ice and snow all year round.
