ICEHOTEL to Open a New Ice Bar in the Heart of Copenhagen

This fall, ICEHOTEL will open a brand-new ice bar on Strøget in Copenhagen – built entirely from natural ice sourced from the Torne River in northern Sweden. The 300-square-metre venue, leased from the Barfoed Group, will be the first ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL operated directly by ICEHOTEL outside of Sweden, marking the start of a broader international expansion.

“We’ve long envisioned bringing our unique ice experience to new cities, and opening right in the heart of Copenhagen is a dream come true,” says Marie Herrey, CEO of ICEHOTEL.

ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL COPENHAGEN will be constructed entirely from ice and snow from Jukkasjärvi – the birthplace of ICEHOTEL, founded in 1989, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Since then, ICEHOTEL has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world. Just this past winter, guests from over 80 countries visited the hotel in northern Sweden.

“Now, both locals and international visitors will have the chance to step into the world of the arctic with ice and snow art, and magical atmosphere – all without leaving Copenhagen,” Marie Herrey continues.

Planning for the new ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL COPENHAGEN is currently underway with ICEHOTEL’s Creative Director, Luca Roncoroni. Each year, a new, design will be created by selected artists, making every season’s version of the ice bar a unique and exclusive art experience.

The new bar on Strøget is the first in ICEHOTEL’s international expansion, with plans to open two new ice bars annually – both company-owned and franchise – across Europe.

The opening is scheduled for Q3 2025.
